Here’s a brief run-down on the equipment and software I use for drawings. It’s all been a bit of trial and error, but this is my current set-up.
I now use a Wacom Cintiq tablet to do the digital line work of my drawings and colour in. I love the display and feeling that I’m drawing directly onto the tablet. Prior to the Cintiq I used a Wacom Intuos.
I sketch in Adobe Photoshop and I have a bit of a ritual for moving a sketch from its messy early lines to super-crisp line art. Once I’ve got adrawing looking pretty clean in Photoshop I bring my line art into Illustrator for the ultimate one button clean-up. Then I tend to fiddle with the lines before using Illustrator’s magic paint function to drop in colour quickly.
Then it’s back to Photoshop for shading and exporting. Adobe Illustrator can do shading, but I find Photoshop is quite speedy.
